ADVENT WREATH RESOURCE

The word ‘advent’ originating from Latin, meant “coming” and was used to describe the arrival of a noticeable person or event in ancient times. The creation of the Advent wreath was meant to be a visible reminder that when Jesus was born, the Light of the world (Jesus) came into our world of darkness! For centuries, the Advent wreath has been a centerpiece in homes and churches during the Christmas season; its purpose is to reorient our hearts to the wonder and awe of the love of God that was revealed through the birth of Jesus. For thousands of years in ancient Israel, the people of God waited patiently and prayed fervently for the coming of the Messiah, and like them, we now also patiently long for and pray for Jesus’ return!
